GASOLINE

Regular Gasoline
The most common gasoline is exactly what is called… common. It is the gasoline technically identified as “type C”, sold at all gas stations. This is commercial gasoline, which contains the addition of 27% anhydrous ethanol (without water). This gasoline is obtained from “type A” fuel, which does not contain any added ethanol, and is not sold at gas stations.
Regular gasoline, type C, does not receive any additives other than ethanol, which is why it has a yellowish color. So much so that, in the past, it was known as “yellow gasoline”. This was in the 70s and 80s, when the noblest (and most expensive) gasoline had a bluish color.
Regular gasoline has a minimum octane rating of 87 IAD (anti-knock index). This number determines the fuel's resistance to detonation before sparking.

Additivated gasoline
Additive fuels appear above regular gasoline. In addition to the addition of ethanol, which is mandatory, this gasoline also contains detergents and dispersants in its composition. Theoretically, these components have the function of cleaning the interior of the engine, such as carbon formations in valves and combustion chambers, for example.
This type of fuel also has some coloring to differentiate it from regular gasoline. Generally, it has the same octane rating as the regular one, but there may be some difference, depending on the distributor.
DIESEL
Diesel Oil is a fuel of fossil origin, obtained from petroleum refining, basically composed of hydrocarbons of 8 to 16 carbons, with low proportions of sulfur, nitrogen and oxygen. It is an oily, flammable, toxic, low-volatile, clear fluid with a characteristic odor. It is used as fuel in light vehicles (in Brazil we do not have light Diesel vehicles), heavy vehicles, railways, in the nautical segment and for generating electrical energy.
Types of diesel
As it is a very versatile fuel, and in order to comply with the various legislation in force, there are several types of diesel oil commercially available, we will now see what the types are and what their characteristics are:

Diesel S500
Common and Additivated
It is a fuel for vehicles with Diesel cycle engines, with a sulfur limit specified at 500 ppm, red in color, and which does not receive any type of additive. It is available for sale in most parts of the country and can be used in vehicles produced before 2012. Diesel S500 Extra Additivated receives detergent, dispersant, anti-foam and anti-corrosive additives.

Diesel S10
Common and Additivated
It is a fuel for vehicles with Diesel cycle engines with a low sulfur content (S10: 10 ppm), used essentially in vehicles produced after 2012, which require a purer fuel for their correct operation. It has a colorless to yellowish color and is not additives. Diesel S10 Extra Additivated receives detergent, dispersant, anti-foam and anti-corrosive additives.
ETHANOL
Ethanol is defined as biofuel originating from the fermentation process of renewable biomass, intended for use in internal combustion engines, and whose main component is ethanol, which is specified in the forms of anhydrous fuel ethanol and hydrated ethanol fuel. Its specific mass is the mass per unit volume of a substance at a given temperature. The alcohol content is the percentage on a mass basis (% m/m) or volumetric basis (% v/v) of alcohol in fuel ethanol.

Additivated Ethanol
Additivated ethanol is hydrated alcohol with additives that provide better performance and less engine wear. Ethanol mixed with gasoline is anhydrous alcohol, alcohol with an alcohol content of at least 99.6%, practically pure alcohol. In some cases, common alcohol is also adulterated with substances that make the product cheaper, which is called adulterated ethanol.
Selling adulterated ethanol is illegal, and using it in your vehicle can cause a variety of harm to the engine and the environment. The three types of ethanol are the same substance (C2H6O), only the alcohol content changes, in the case of anhydrous and hydrated ethanol, the use of additives, the difference between common and hydrated ethanol, or the addition of illegal substances, adulterated ethanol.
Biopetróleo maintains strict quality control to ensure the supply of ethanol meets the standards required by current legislation.
